Just sold my second hand canon 85mm f1.2 for chromatic aberration and having trouble focusing on 5dsr and r5. What are your thoughts on Sigma 85mm f1.4 Art and Zeiss Milvus 85mm f1.4 ? All I want is the best looking portraits.
I had the 85mm f1.4 on my 5d4 before. It was very sharp wide open 1.4. But it was really heavy for me. Before that, I used the 85 1.2ii as well. IMO, sigma is way better
I don't have first hand experience on the particular models that you're thinking about, but I too sold my 85mm 1.2 when I switched to sony, but I'm thinking about buying it again. For me, the 85mm 1.2 works best with center point focus / recompose, and even though it doesn't work fantastic with sony's eye autofocus, there's something special about the look of the 85mm that makes me still prefer it over my generally more reliable Sony native lenses
Sigma is really killing the game with their offerings that are on par with others. I used to have the 85 L 1.2 II for Canon before going all-in on Sony and it was amazing.
I do weddings, and we have multiple teams so lots of lenses at my disposal, but the only 3 lenses I use for photos exclusively are the Sigma Art 35mm, 85mm, and then the 105mm 2.8. The 85mm 1.4 is my favorite lens, but I have my eye on their 105mm Art 1.4. I highly recommend Sigma. Build quality vs price is excellent. I use Nikon but the focusing on the Z7 with the Nikon adapter is very good, almost as fast if not just as fast as a native lens. So i wouldn't see there being issues with the R5.
Does anyone use Helio 40 - 2 85mm f1.5? How is it for portraiture compared to Sigma 85mm? What are your comments on it in terms of artistic aesthetics?
That the helio like the lensbaby is a special effects lens that will soon lose favor with the social media crowd and end up buried in many camera bags
