Seeing the Unseen: How to Photograph Landscapes at Night was my first eBook. It was published originally in March 2012 and was incredibly well received. It was the first learning resource on night photography that didn’t rely on rules of thumb and guessing, and it paved the way for great development in the field for the future.

Having recently revisited the text, I realize it is just as valid today as it was when originally published. It still receives excellent feedback, and many of the world’s most significant landscape photographers still site it as a huge influence.

Between 2009-2011 I spent several hundred nights out in the landscape working out everything from first principles. I was tired of being told that with a ¼ moon I could shoot for an hour at f4. It was meaningless and a waste of time, so I went out to explore what we could do, what are the variables and how can we guarantee good exposures every single time.

How to focus at night? How to compose? Everything was mystery. Much of the work was undertaken in the Himalaya of China & Tibet where I was living at the time. Working out exposure times at 5000m gives you a headache!

For the last year of research I moved to live on the north coast of Spain to explore the implications of a completely different environment.
