Since everything is constantly changing and updating, I have created the Archive section where I suggest that we move the threads that are older than 5 years.
    What do you think?

I clicked yes but where threads that have multiple likes > 200 as an example should be kept as these are clearly P-V club gold and valuable for new members.

By gold i mean valuable / highly regarded shares.

    This idea is very good.
But for the requests section, I think completed requests older than 1 year or 6 months should be moved to the archive.

I think it depends what category it's under really, no?
    Filled requests - maybe 7 months (f 0.7)
    Software-related - maybe 1-2 years (f1.0 - f2.0)
    Others - maybe 4 years (f4.0)

Assuming this is presently a manual process; perhaps not realistic. But can it be made an automatic time-related or action-related funtion? Or perhaps better (to potentially lighten the workload) - can an option be implemented to allow the Original Post(er) a choice to move the thread to the archive at a defined time?

If they're dead, then yes Archive them, or posts with 5 years made by members inactive for 1 year.
I found many posts Dead and the member, according to information on the Avatar last time seen, 2022 / 2023

I can bulk move threads according to their creation date from the back-end.

Can you make available from the front-end an option to choose an archival move [defined duration from post] so that its done automatically?

    Nope.
But it is not a problem to do it once a month or something.

    Okay - understood.
I've a question about those items once archived - because they may still contain many great pieces for newer members and even those that simply may have overlooked something which is now relevant along ones' timeline:
Does mirroring a link that's no longer active in the archive bump it to the top [within the Archive section] for all to see?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the question within this thread . . . just something I was immediately wondering . . . :)

    - EDIT- No need for a reply - just tried a "test" on one of the older (pg 555; that Archive is damn deep) and it bumped right to the top . . . sorry for wasting anyone's time . . . ;)

    Could get messy.

I'd rather see some more stuff put in its own section, like Meg Bitton, Sweet Soul Studios, Finding North, Jerry Ghionis, Lindsay Adler, Joel Grimes, Summerana, Tara Lesher, The Unraveled Academy, Gumroad, PhotoWhoa, Craftsy, Domestika, and 5DayDeals as possible examples.
As well as a section for magazine subscriptions

Likewise agree because {at present} there's no organization within the Archive section; just a single repository [555 pgs as of this writing] for all those threads moved there . . . so room for improvement? ;) Or one can use the search function (assuming the thread has followed the recommended naming protocol) - which sometimes it doesn't . . .

I mean, threads with no likes and no replies for 5 years? Sure, archive them. But if the thread is still being useful to active members currently, I don't think it should be archived. For example, a course on lighting or posing is pretty timeless, vs a thread about an older version of PS or LR.

As I understand it, the archive section is still accessible and searchable. I’d love to see any post that has become stagnant (no likes or comments) be archived after six months, and any post reported dead archived after six months.

I assume Admin wants to move old stuff to the Archive section in order to silence the endless "Please reup" requests that appear in the New Posts area. If the Dead thread prefix were timely updated (which it isn't) whenever the thread either dies or revives, then there would be no need to move anything anywhere. Of course that requires constant moderating which may not be feasible.

If moving old stuff to the Archive section is the way to go, then Admin should first define what is "Old." I would say anything older than the average lifespan of a new thread is Old. The average thread lifespan can be figured out by sampling. For each sampled thread, subtract the date of the first reup request from the date the OP was created. The difference is that thread's lifespan. Do that for a hundred or so randomly selected threads to calculate the average.

Is it feasible to assume posters dl and keep every thread they post? I've had reup requests for very old posts, and normally do have the asset. BUT not everyone does. More often than not, people just don't bother to respond to reups...save a few of us. Archive the 5+ older threads. If they are searchable, and someone wants the item(s) they can post on that for a reupload--and if they're lucky someone may have it, and take the time to find it and post a new link. my 2cents.

Can the Archive area be organized by Photo/Video/Effects, etc. Or is that too much work?
New members may get overwhelmed looking through the Archive if everything under the sun is tossed in there without any categories. If I were new, I would be pulling my hair out because I don't care so much for Video or Effects, just Photo. The Archive will become a massive black hole with hundreds of pages (except for those who know exactly what they are looking for--They can always use Search.)

for me its a technical and creative things we do, its better to keep threads for learning and problem solving purposes but remove images from them. There are so many settings and tweaks that we share for troubleshooting purposes which may be useful for someone whos starting out.

I think if it's had no activity in 5+ years, then yes, archive if it's searchable. I still like some learning resources or other items that are older, but perhaps not as relevant. Maybe would be also handy to label posts that are over 5years old somehow, for example

    TITLE [5+ years old]

In general, I can certainly see the value in archiving and there have been some good suggestions in previous responses so I won't repeat those. But, I do wonder if archiving makes more sense to be based on the last interaction date as opposed to the created date. If no one has interacted with a thread at all, say in the last 12-18 months, then it could be archived. Perhaps a process could run to check periodically to move them to the archive. But basing it on interaction could help to not arbitrarily archive stuff that folks are finding valuable still.
