    120 SHOP TALK - January 20, 2026

    Questions Addressed:

    1. George wanted feedback on how to get rid of wrinkles on a tablecloth after the fact. A few chimed in and gave their advice, the conversation then steered towards backdrops...how to make them and how to store them so the wont wrinkle.

    2. We also addressed Susan's question about perspectives when taking Image Stacking shots in camera.

    3. Frequency Separation, we thought it might be a way to get rid of wrinkles and made a note to explain exactly what it is and how to do it in PS. We say that there is an action for it in the TK Combo.

    4. Again, we explained what a Stamp layer is and how to create one.

    5. And...there were suggestions for future SHop talk Sessions, especially how to create an Action!

    6. What is a Tiff file and the difference between a psd to a tiff file.

    121 SHOP TALK - February 10, 2026

    Questions Addressed:

    1. Breaking an image into thirds: We explored how to divide an image into three distinct sections and thoughtfully place them within the canvas to create a stronger visual impact and balance.

    2. Pixel-stretched–style imagery: Several participants experimented with pixel-stretched–inspired images. While I intentionally kept the technical explanation light, we’ll be taking a deep dive into this technique next week, learning how to create these images step by step.

    3. Pep Ventosa–inspired techniques: We reviewed Cindy’s image, in which she emulated the Pep Ventosa tapestry approach using selective geometric lighting. We examined how the effect was achieved and shared targeted tips to refine and strengthen the final result.

Bravo to everyone who submitted images — I was genuinely impressed and so proud of the creativity, risk-taking, and growth on display.
We didn’t have time to review every submission, so we’ll continue the session next week. In the meantime, I encourage you to keep experimenting, refining, and pushing your ideas further. The exploration is where the breakthroughs happen.

Looking forward to seeing what you create next.

    124 SHOP TALK PIXEL STRETCH PART 3 - March 3, 2026
Another rich and layered session where we pushed even further into the nuances of the Pixel Stretch technique — moving beyond the basics and exploring its creative potential in greater depth.
In this session, we examined not just how to execute the technique, but why and when to use it. We looked at how Pixel Stretch can be integrated thoughtfully into a composition, how it interacts with light, color, and subject matter, and how subtle adjustments can dramatically change the final outcome. Rather than treating it as a gimmick, we explored it as a deliberate artistic tool.

This is an especially valuable session to revisit if you want to see how multiple techniques can work together cohesively. Gradient lighting, adding colour in post — all converged here. It’s a strong example of how technical skill and creative intention must align to produce compelling results.

If you’re looking to deepen your understanding and refine your execution, this is definitely one worth watching.

    126 SHOP TALK - March 17, 2026

    Questions Addressed:

    1. On Cindy's image, we saw various ways to replace a sky in an intricate image as the one here with the lone tree.

    2. On Judy's image, we saw how to straighten a building and its reflection in the windows.

    3. Finally, in Irena's image, we went down the rabbit hole of trying to fix the white halos. Some were there to begin with, and some were created from the strong clarity of the post-processing.

    127 SHOP TALK - March 24, 2026 - CREATING PATTERNS!

    An Excellent Session Today!
    1. Cheryl walked us through how to create Patterns in Photoshop in various ways. We also prepared an instructions pdf (see attached) that you can follow step-by-step. For our next session (in two weeks on April 7th), please upload your pattern images to this folder (PSD files, please, 2000 pixels on the widest side at 72 psi)

    2. We helped Cindy out by adding colour to the foreground of her image and saw how we could enhance the top part by adding some square brushstrokes to complement the tapestry look of her series.

    3. We had a look at Richard's pixel stretch image and gave our feedback.

    4. Lastly, after we finished drooling over her images, we tried to back-engineer Lisa Frank's composites. We will continue to explore her image in future sessions.

    130 SHOP TALK - April 21, 2026
We discussed two very different topics in this session:
    1. We went through Cindy's image of turning a daytime to nighttime scene following Jamie R Mathlin's technique. and,

    2. We went through the submissions of the work in progress of Patreons Lisa Frank-style composits. I was taken and impressed by the creativity!

    133 SHOP TALK - May 26, 2026
    Questions Addressed:
    1. We began by looking at the first of Anita’s images — a striking photograph built strongly around form, light, and shadow. We explored ways to expand the tonal range and carefully analyzed how the composition contributed to the overall impact of the image.

    2. In Lucia’s image, we examined how a rectangular composition could successfully be transformed into a square format. In doing so, we discussed how the change in crop altered the visual story and why tonal adjustments became necessary to maintain balance and emphasis.

    3. We then reviewed another of Anita’s images, this time a vibrant and colourful photograph filled with interesting shapes and visual rhythm. Once again, composition became the focus as we explored ways to strengthen and refine the image for greater visual impact.

    4. With Cindy’s high-key image, we demonstrated techniques for enhancing subtle tonal separation and making white-on-white elements stand out with more depth and clarity.

    5. Lastly, we looked at some inspiring work by Amanda Van Der Westhuizen and discussed possible techniques and creative approaches behind the creation of her images.

    134 SHOP TALK - June 2, 2026
We began today’s session with Darcy introducing us to the fascinating world of printing photographs and designs on fabric. Whether uploading your own artwork or choosing from an extensive library of existing designs, the creative possibilities are endless. Darcy guided us through several online printing services, discussed the various fabric options available, and shared examples of how images can be transformed into unique textile creations. If this is something you’d like to explore further, please contact Sharon for Darcy’s email address.
We also looked at the process of uploading images to Instagram and had a lively discussion about social media—covering some of the opportunities, challenges, and considerations photographers face when sharing their work online.

Finally, we wrapped up the session with a brief but informative discussion on colour spaces in Photoshop, touching on why they matter and how they can affect the way your images are displayed and reproduced across different platforms and devices.

Hey @IronMarco - I see you've had a good long run of keeping the group updated with new episodes from this series, and I'm wondering if it might not make more sense to collapse these all into a single thread. For you, it could make things easier to maintain if you had one thread to go to instead of a bunch of different threads to maintain, and for other users, it could reduce the visual overwhelm in the thread lists when they see a bunch of these posted back to back.

It would be a little tedious on my end, so you'd have to bear with me while I was in the middle of moving everything (i.e. don't post any new ones until I'm done ;) ), but I could collapse everything you've posted on this shop talk series into one chronological thread without you losing any likes, and anytime you post a new item to the thread, one thread would pop to the top of the list for others to see. It would probably be good to do something similar for the other Patreon series you're posting by her, too like the "Before to after" series and the "Talk and Learn" series... to keep everything tight and organized. What do you think?
