And this is sample of this kind of peaple, malicious spammer, without real contribution, whose main contribution is cluttering the forum... You see what I mean.

 

Relaaaax, if people want to say thanks for something they've received, than I say good on them! It's nice to receive a thank you every now and again and you can always unfollow topics and threads if you don't want the notifications

 

Wait, malicious spammer? Malicious spam involves the use of unsolicited, mass digital communications (such as emails or text messages) to distribute malware, steal personal data or defraud recipients. How on earth can a thank-you message be spam (yes, I know this particular one is meant as a joke)?

 

Buddy, there is an appropriate function to express gratitude. It's simple and that's all it this subject.

 

I actually think seeing the "thanks" comments to be very nice. It's an extra step to show appreciation for what someone has posted. Just clicking the like button doesn't really mean anything when that is the main mechanism to downloading something.

 

I am pretty sure you are borderline from being maybe banned from here. You don't make the rules. I understand your frustration completely but there are rules here and I don't think there is one for banning people for saying thanks...
Maybe @curiousdude will check this thread and let us and you know whether it is a rule or not.
I appreciate any shares you have shared but not quite sure this post or your rant is appropriate.

 

A simple 'thanks' is better than no gratitude at all.

 

I generally place a "like" to anyone positing a written thanks in response to [my] shared post - it's benign enough to not warrant an irk. But likewise - I've seen peeps repeatedly write thanks over and over for every.single.post. I guess it's somewhat a strategy to build a tally to trade for monthly subs; and I get it . . . but I can see how that could be a little off-putting to those sensitive to such practice. But eh . . . no biggie really.

I think FemaleForm's issue here is the "Thanks" comment is spamming the board. I might be wrong but this can be resolved by adding another column on the New Posts page list with a preview of the most recent comment, since threads with the newest comment gets bumped to the New Posts list. So if there's a preview column and the user can see that its just a "Thanks / Thank you" comment, they wont open it. And the new comments on that thread should only notify the original poster/author/OP so that "thanks" comments will not notify the other commenters, unless the thanks comment directly quotes their comment. Just a thought

 

Some inflation of “thanks” posts I saw here and there. Still, I would say overall they serve a purpose: they show appreciation and prevent the forum from turning into an anonymous leeching channel. Clicking the thanks button is technically cleaner, but a short written message feels more human and shows that the contribution genuinely helped/upload and effort is being appreciated.

 

I’ve noticed that oftentimes an old post which receives a ‘thanks’ becomes visible to newer users or older users who had previously overlooked it, allowing them to find out what’s being shared and they might be interest in that particular share. This is also beneficial for the original poster, as it can breathe new life into his share.

 

Forgot to mention this. Yes, couple of times I saw something that would have been otherwise missed by me. So I appreciated this being bumped up.

 

For me, clicking the like button is mostly to obtain the link and earn contribution points to boost the uploader’s score. If I find the shared resource genuinely useful and great, I will leave a special comment to express my gratitude. Besides, this also lets other users know it is a worthwhile share, so they won’t miss out on valuable resources.
