hi guys, Do you have a course, a book or a video, photography related, that contributed the most to your learning and style or helped you the most when you needed? Somethin with the "oh, so that's how its done!" moment? What are your favoritures?
Great thread! When I first started, I took a lot of beginners classes, but the most comprehensive was "Photography Foundations with Ben Long" from lynda.com. For OCF, definitely the "Foundations of a Working Photographer with Zack Arias" from CreativeLive. As for retouching (I also took a lot of classes), the best one so far is the "High End Photo Retouching Class with Pratik Naik" from CreativeLive. Books I read severals, but "The History of Photography by Beaumont Newhall" was the one I would recommend. I would love to her the opinions of other members too.
The new retouching series of Pratik Naik from The Portrait Masters is really good, finished this week. It's kind of an update of "High End Photo Retouching Class with Pratik Naik" from CreativeLive.
I have that class...had it for maybe a year now, but have yet to watch it! hahaha! I've heard it's a great class, but I haven't been able to set aside the time to really watch it...just bits and pieces here and there. I definitely need to set aside the time to watch it ;-)
Totally understand you… It keeps the same (great) Pratik non destructive workflow with some new tips and tricks, nothing major. Great class, anyway.
Sounds awesome! I think I'll have some time this week to watch it...I want to make sure I'm paying close attention to it
Would you recommend taking the older one first, or is the newer portrait masters masters is sufficient?
Both are amazing, but I would recommend the older one first, seems more comprehensive to me, but the newer is a great too. He is one of the best retouch teachers out there… and I took a lot of retouching classes.
I have some suggestions too: For Lighting be sure to check out SLR Lounge Lighting 101, 201, 301 and 401. Zack Arias and Tony Corbell is also great in this field. For posing I would recommend you to take a look at Sue Bryce Education series, Lindsay Adler and Roberto Valenzuela (particularly his book and creativelive videos). Jerry Ghionis has great posing and lighting tutorials too but they are slightly old and not many around. However, he is a great teacher.
Been to a few Peter Coulson workshop days and got a lot out of them. I believe he now has an online tutorial site https://inspire.peter-coulson.com.au
