Video Repair Tool is a recovery utility, it can repair and fix broken or damaged video files (MOV, MP4, 3GP, M4V) that cannot be played in your media player.
- Recovers truncated, broken, or damaged video files.
- Recovery of video files that cannot be played in QuickTime or Windows Media player.
- Repair videos that were not completed by the camera.
- Recovery does not depend on the permissible / correct container format - the original data of the video and audio stream is restored automatically.
- Support for raw link movies to search for missing metadata and movie parameters.
Currently, our software can automatically repair damaged .mov, .mp4, .m4v, or .3gp video files (usually all video files based on the QuickTime container format) using one of the following codec formats:
- avc1 (H264 / AVC used by most digital cameras, camcorders, iPhone, etc.).
- mp4v (H264 / ISO, used by some cameras).
- MPG2 / xdvc / xd5d / xd5e (MPEG-2 / XDCAM, used by Sony cameras).
- jpg (Motion JPEG used by Panasonic cameras).
- icod (Apple's intermediate codec used by Final Cut).
- dvc / dvpp / dvhp (DVCPRO / DVCPRO HD, used by Panasonic cameras).
- apch / apcn / apcs / apco / ap4h (ProRes 4444/422 / LT / HQ / Proxy, used Apple Final Cut X,Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2020 and other video editors).
The videos of the following cameras were checked for correctness using this software (however, we cannot check all camera models, and it usually works on most digital cameras):
- Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K, for PCM audio, select "Enable PCM detection".
- Canon 60D, 5D, 7D, T1i, EOS 550D, Powershot SX20, S95, 574HD for PCM audio, select "Enable PCM detection".
- Contour HD Helmet.
- DJI Mavic Pro, DJI Phantom Pro, DJI Vision Plus 2, if the video stutters, select "avc1 single mode" and "No CTTS repair" in the options section.
- Drift HD720, select custom repair options '- single'
- Flip Ultra HD.
- HTC EVO 4G.
- GoPro, POV.HD, Contour + 2, ActionPro X7, if the restored video freezes, try activating "No CTTS repair" in the options section. If there is no audio, select "Enable AAC detection". If we restored the GoPro / ActionPro video from the SD card media, the restored video may freeze every few seconds. The reason is that this camera stores additional files, and this recovery software cannot filter additional files and places the data in video files. Solution: Use the MaxDataGenius data recovery tool to first extract the correct MOV files from your media.
- iPhone, Nokia N82, Nexus One, all Android smartphones, if the quality of the restored video is poor, select "No CTTS repair" in the options section. If there is no audio, select "Enable AAC detection" in the options section.
- Liquid Image HD320, Toshiba Camileo S30, B10, P100, AR Drone Quadcopter, select custom repair parameters "AVC1 single mode" in the options section.
- Nikon Coolpix P300, select the custom repair options "AVC1 single mode" in the options section.
- Olympus Tough TG-810, select the custom repair options "AVC1 single mode" and "No CTTS repair" in the options section.
- Oregon ATC9K.
- Panasonic HVX200, HXDC1, DC-GH5, if we have a damaged .MDT file, use it to recover and rename it to .MP4 before starting recovery. Select "No CTTS repair" in the options section if the restored video freezes. If the audio is of poor quality, select "Enable PCM detection" in the options section.
If the video does not play at all, try the option "Overwrite existing codec information by reference file".
If importing restored videos does not work, then the restored video should be converted after recovery - reconnecting / converting / reenconding / converting (using ffmpeg) to import into the program in the options section: if you select "MP4 (same quality)", it will be use ffmpeg (it is located in the videorepair \ toolswin folder) to convert the video for import. Note: Do not use Panasonic SD Card File Recovery (AVCCAM), recovered MOV files cannot be restored. Solution: Use the MaxDataGenius data recovery tool to first extract the correct MOV files from your media.
- Samsung HMX200, HMXS10, MX20, SMX-F400BP / EDC and other cameras from Samsung, select custom repair parameters "AVC1 single mode"
- SIV M7, select custom repair parameters "AVC1 single mode" in the options section.
- Sony XDCAM, EX1, F900, JVC HM100, Matrox MX02, and other MPEG2 cameras and sources, if the sound is white noise, in the options section, select the “-af twos” custom repair option for PCM big endian or “-af sowt "for PCM little endian.
If the video is shaky, in the options section, select:
1. Turn on "reencode movie files".
2. Select "Custom (ffmpeg) as preset for reencoding".
3. Enter "mp4: -f mov -acodec copy -vcodec mpeg2video -sameq" in the "custom reencoder params".
- Sony DSC-HX1, select "Enable AVC1 single mode", select "Reencode repaired movie files (MP4 high quality)", select "Overwrite existing codec information by reference file".
- Sony A6500, AX100, A7SII, A7RII, A7II, select "No CTTS repair" in the options section. For PCM audio, select "Enable PCM detection".
- XSplit Broadcaster, select custom repair parameters "AVC1 single mode" in the options section.
- Yuneec Typhoon CG03, turn off "detect new movie clips", and turn on "AVC1 single mode" and "No CTTS repair".
- Zoom Q3HD, no sound.
So, let's try to restore in practice the video from the D-Link DCS-942L network camera. It does not have a power button, and therefore when the power is turned off (by pulling out the power cable), the entire video is beaten (since the container does not have time to close). Therefore, there are always video folders without thumbnails in the folders:

Open the archive, go to the following directory: videorepair \ videorepair and run the gs.exe installer by double-clicking on it.




We select English by default. OK



The utility will load in Demo mode, which means that only 50% of the video duration will be restored.



In the Video Repair Tool interface, click on the button: Purchase.



Remember or write down Request number.



We start keygen.exe ...



In the first field we drive in Request number and we press the button: Generate.

Specify the path to the broken video and click on the button: Open.

And we indicate the path to normal video from the D-Link DCS-942L camera, where the container was correctly closed. Please note that the recovery folder: repaired will already be created. Select it and click on the button: Open.




To start treatment, click on the button: Scan.

This video was restored for playback in a media player, now we’ll try to import it into the Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2020 video editing program. When importing, we immediately encounter the following error that pops up in the tray.

Run the utility My MP4Box GUI, switch to the Demux tab and click on the button: Open. Open our restored video and click on the button: Demux.

Once again, run the utility My MP4Box GUI, with the Mux tab active, click on the Add button and add elementary streams (video and audio). Click on the Mux button.





We import the repackaged video into Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2020, we do not encounter any errors, and the first frame of the clip thumbnail in the project window is displayed correctly.
