I choose not to use or buy Lightroom / Photoshop presets because I believe in developing my own unique editing style and enhancing my photography skills through manual adjustments. While presets can save time and provide consistency, they can also limit creativity and result in generic-looking images that lack personal touch. I prefer to experiment with different settings, tools, and techniques to create one-of-a-kind photos that truly showcase my artistic vision. By avoiding presets, I challenge myself to continuously improve and grow as a photographer, rather than relying on pre-made edits to enhance my work.

Some presets are fantastic - Silverchrome : Geoff Ascough and Seims filmic presets, both I enjoy using.

I do agree there's alot of shite but for me personally I see no harm in using them if that's the style your trying to achieve.

It certainly takes nothing away from you as a photographer, afterall, you took the shots.

I don't have time to take a look at all those presets, consider the value they may bring to my creative endeavors. There are so much crap.

I've discussed this with many people, most of whom have photography as a hobby and few of whom have the same opinion: photography is just a part-time job.

A preset only limits your creativity if you just click and that's it. Those who use a Preset in this way look for the automatic button in the programs.

For those looking for something more, the preset can and should be adjusted to suit what we have in mind.

I use actions in my workflow that I created and that I can run inside Lightroom, but, as with everything, an action can be programmed to stop and allow us to apply other values and thus adjust our image to what we have in mind.
Just like a Preset that I also create and take advantage of AI but then I adjust the values to what my images require.

I'm not against people who prefer to edit their images one by one and “waste” time on each one, but, and I could be wrong, most of the people I read and defend that on Facebook, these LOL masters, photography is just a second source of income, and they take one or two photos a month.

If you have a large volume of work, you can't afford to sit in front of your PC/Mac for days editing, if Lightroom or Camera Raw already give you the advantage of editing several photos at once, then adding a Preset can be an advantage.

Not all the Presets out there are so bad, some I'll never use, but I've seen others that I've grabbed and adapted to what I do.
