HELLO, I’M EDGAR WRIGHT
I’m the writer/director of such films as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho, and The Sparks Brothers. And today I’m here to teach you about the process of filmmaking. When I started my journey to becoming a filmmaker, it began with making low budget short films with my friends during the school year and summer months. And it still surprises me to this day that this was a legitimate first step to me becoming a studiobacked filmmaker. It just goes to show you, anyone can be a filmmaker. And though the journey to becoming one is difficult, it is far from impossible. In doing this filmmaking course, I hope I am able to impart some wisdom along with a few helpful tools that will aid in your first steps to becoming the filmmaker you know you can be. I also hope that these lessons teach you a genuinely unique perspective on the art of filmmaking. Unique, not because my methods are some sort of be-all-end-all process. Unique – rather – because my methods, like every other filmmaker’s, are distinct for my own vision. That’s the amazing thing about filmmaking. Everyone who works in the craft is able to define the art form on their own terms. That’s why there are so many different films that have been created over the brilliant – but brief – history of the medium
