Can't post request

Ahh thanks! I missed this rule change.

 

Does this rule still apply? Don't wanna throw anyone under the bus, but I do see some newcomers posting requests that aren't gold. I have actually been trying to post a request or possibly get in on a group buy but it says I lack permission.

 

This forum is very much geared towards paying money for content and requests. What a shame.

Might seem like that at first....but what makes this forum a bit diff. is the willingness of members to contribute, either by purchasing a GOLD mem, or earning one with contributions of photo/video assets.
Just to pop in and start dl and requesting anything and everything kinda puts a dent in the philosophy here......so no shame at all.

 

I was where you are. First: this isn't like any other site so don't try to make comparisons. Second: Think of it like a road trip. If you have the car or the chips (stuff to share), you're contributing. If you don't, you have to contribute by paying for the gas (paying money for content and requests).

What's the benefit of making a post gold only? Does this give since sort of other benefits to the poster since you'd accrue less likes?

I have no idea and NEVER do that to my posts. Elven says it protects his upload account somehow, but didn't elaborate. Others have said it's to encourage people to share. In my case, I don't care anything about the likes, but was told to hide my links to protect the site. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Yes, it's a bit odd.

If you hide it to gain likes (because you're looking for likes for the equivalent gold membership) theme you want as many people as possible to have access to it, so you'd hide it for everyone, not just gold members.

The only reason I can see to make a link gold only is so that if someone wants that content and don't have gold membership, they go through the slog of uploading and slowly getting 1000 likes, or, more likely , they pay for gold membership.

 

Most people who mark their posts as Gold don't need the likes. They want more stuff to download so encouraging people to post content is likely their primary goal. Some of them have never paid for their own Gold membership, trading likes for it instead.
FYI: You only need 100 likes to trade for a Gold membership, AFAIK.

 

You get one trophy point for 100 likes, and gold membership for one month for 10 trophy points.

However, you can only post 3 threads every 24 hours, so if your posts are getting an average of 20 likes each, and you need 50 posts to reach 1000 lines, that's 17 days of posting (can't understand why they do this excerpt to force you to use the site daily).

I imagine they want people to get exasperated and just buy gold membership, so it's a money maker. This site probably makes quite a lot of money to the owner.

Of course, for people to go through all this or pay money for pirated media, you'd think (some or most of) the media is should be exclusive to this site, as there are many forums sharing this sort of stuff for free and torrent trackers and Usenet. This is likely why one rule on this site is no posting of material on other sites, which is ironic for a forum that deals with pirated copyrighted material to ban users posting it elsewhere, and trying to get users to pay for the media.

That doesn't make sense. I only have 300+ likes but 33 trophy points. I think you get 10 points for every 100 likes.

What is more galling is that gold membership now costs 12 dollars a month. That is crazy. My mobile phone bill, Netflix, Spotify costs less or similar to that.
