To be very honest this course was produced before 2020, so it's bit outdated as it was taught on older versions of resolve, there are so many tools and techniques that has been added on resolve 19 and 20. So have deleted most of old resolve tutorials from my hard drive as it's of no use in 2025. I could find it from somewhere in the internet but its a waste of time, I learnt nothing from Denver, he's not a good colorist but a good businessman.

I'd have to agree. I have this course (but the premiere pro version) and Denver is just "bleh" - his main schtick is to funnel people to his "semi-do it for you" coloring plugin, Cinema Grade. He's basically a nicer, more pleasant version of that creep Waqas Qazi. If you want actual, world class color grading education, check out Cullen Kelly or Darren Mostyn on YouTube.

 

I agree, the course by Waqas Qazi is terrible. It's more about money and posing. I also got recommendations for Cullen Kelly and Darren Mostyn. Have they never had their own courses in the past? The only source of learning from them is on Youtube, only?

 

It's been a while since I checked, but I don't think Darren has a paid course available. Cullen does - his courses tend to build off of his free content, being specific to certain niche deep dives (like designing looks, for example) and to teaching people how to become professional colorists (that class is $750, requires signing up for a waitlist, and comes with 1 on 1 coaching ). If I recall, they're both BlackMagic certified trainers, too. I was just recommending YouTube so you could get a feel for their styles and content. These guys make their money by getting hired as professional colorists, so they give away a ridiculous amount of knowledge for free - they have much less incentive to gatekeep like the bottom feeders do.

 

Also, don't forget that Black Magic puts out a free, top tier Resolve course of their own that they keep constantly updated. So if you're trying to learn the nuts and bolts of how to use Resolve in general, that's a fantastic resource, too.

 

About Darren, I did joined Darren's 2025 Course, it did show me something but its not that of life changing stuff, its more like Beginner's Introduction to Resolve. Advanced stuffs has been gatekept for future Advanced Course, so they say.
About Cullen, he has Color Accelerator Course, I have been to his Contour Course, Genesis Course, nothing advanced look development has been explained in either both, I hope I wont learn anything new from his accelerator course, maybe will get a chance to get inside his discord friend circles, learn from them.

There's always gatekeeping in this sector of post production, somethings we have to learn alone by experimentation. So many people recommend Cullen or Darren as they are the good youtuber for color grading community but in reality the people who are good at grading wont ever have time to create grading tutorials, they are busy with professional work, and professional work always pays more that a bunch of youtube monetized tutorials or courses. See those colorists from Company3, they hardly does interviews , no time to chill lol and their IMDB profile is full of good projects.
And if you see these acclaimed youtube colorists imdbs, its not good enough. And if its not good enough, how will we learned from them, if they are good as they say - why aren't they hired in big good projects?
Its my honest thoughts and ideas, I don't mean to offend anyone and I respect everybody's own businesses, its the way they earn their living but its also truth. Here you go see for yourselves.




My take is learn the basics and experiment lol, take tiny bits of information from everywhere Vietnam, England, Russia - you name it and experiment. Learn with friends, there are so many colorists here. This is the way.
