There are villas like this all over Italy, and a particular concentration in Val d’Orcia, but Poggio Covili is one of the most photographed. This month, we go on location at Poggio Covili and explore the possibilities. Behind The Scene The magical forest of Fanal in Madeira is a famously beautiful place to explore and photograph. The forest includes a collection of ancient laurel trees scattered around an open field, where roaming cows trim the grass for an unusual landscape of shapes and patterns emerging from the mist. Behind the Scene explores one of the many images I have made at Fanal and how I dealt with capturing and processing the fog. Lightroom Technique The photography topics I find most interesting are composition and light, and most of my technique articles are about composition and discovering great light and locations. However, a reader recently asked me why my images appear so sharp and vivid in the magazine, and my answer mostly connected to editing. It's a large topic to cover, but this month we explore a few of my favourite techniques for editing photographs.
