How do you know there is an update in the 'Alexa Look'? Where's the info? I can't seem to find it.

And the additional 5 film luts you mean, are the 'Film Look' luts? They are not 'new', they have been available for a while.

 

Hi, so this was posted mid last year. The folders in it are "Alexa Monitor LUTs" and "Arri LUTs" - this in itself is confusing because the site lists The Alexa Look and The Film Look as the two types of LUTs.

In this video he posted in 2018, the description says: "I now have slog2 and slog3 versions which come together when you purchase the LUT pack." meaning he's made changes.

You'll also notice in the thread currently on this site, LUT number 4 is called Green Eyes, whereas on his site it is called Jamaica, because it has been updated.

TL;DR -
We have an old version of those LUTs on the site.
The latest version is gen 10.
There are two sets of LUTs - Alexa Look and Film Look.

Ones on this site are called "Alexa Monitor LUTs" and "Arri Luts" which is not referenced on his site. So for all I know, he named it something different in the past, but I actually can't tell what these are. My guess is the "Alexa Monitor LUTs Slog2" are to be loaded on camera as monitor LUTs and ARRI Luts are the one for your NLE.

 

Yeah, the difference in names is weird.

I have the Film Look luts Gen 9, which include the monitor LUTs (to be loaded in a monitor like an Atomos and be used while recording), and the Slog3/2/2-sg3cine to be used in your NLE.

For the Alexa Look LUTs, the same: Monitor and NLE LUTs.

I also noticed the change in name of LUT 4 for the Alexa Look luts, so it might be updated.

Edit: According to youtube comments they seem to be greatly improved.

 

Damn, they are really selling it. I have been using the (gen 8 or 9?) that I got here and they've been good. I have been mixing with Gamut.io LUTs, which I want to get more of. I think this will be my Sony color solution moving forward. Hopefully we can get the update to these.

If you have the version with Jamaica, would you be inclined to share your pack at least?

What are your thoughts on the new versions?

 

Hey, I have not tested yet. I may later today, or tomorrow I will be back to editing. Using the older versions, I liked them. As you're really pushing for it, I will purchase once I can secure some work, hopefully soon because everything points to this being the default LUTs I should use with my Sony cameras.

 

I found the Jamaica LUT being so different of what it was before, so I consider it a complitely new preset, not an update. I don't know the reasons to replace it.

I've realised that the Neutral LUT is very similar to this LUTs:

It's almost the same, only the highlight roll-off changes noticebly. Contrast, color, and mainly everything looks almost the same.

 

Ah, yeah so I like Alister's stuff. I used an SLOG3 LUT from him that saved my rear last year. Also, it's funny how Alister suggests SLOG3 and Joel says just do Slog2. Joel doesn't really talk about if he uses custom over Cine EI mode.

 

I use SLOG3.cine all the time.

 

Tested it out and yes I think the new ones are great. Big improvements! Thank you!

 

Latest update (G11, september 2020) of both LUTs sets: The Alexa Look and The Film Look for Sony F55, FS7, FS5 and all Alpha series (pre-A7SIII).

Not me, sorry. I'll get it when I get the A7SIII, but it's not happening anytime soon.
