I came across a photo of how some unique stills were taken before high-rez sensors.

Yes, that is a Nikon. I have no idea how it was triggered.

In the 80s, I worked with the Lucky Strike PR team with Kenny Roberts, and we did a shoot at Laguna Seca? Philips Island? for a promotional video + book gift to be awarded in a promotional campaign. We used two bikes with Kenny's protege and future world champion Wayne Rainey on the front bike. A Nikon equipped with a radio control trigger was fixed and duct-taped to the seat facing back. The photographer was waiting in a corner to trigger a burst shot.

It was a horrible experience for the riders who continuously rode hours, testing tires and cooperating with our PR shoot. In an amusing burst sequence caught after publishing, you can see Kenny raising a middle finger in "appreciation" of our work. In one lap, the vibrations shook loose the viewfinder component which whizzed by Kenny's helmet. He was late coming back to the pits, and we were concerned. He came back with the component and a few harsh words, and we attached another DSLR to the bike and made sure to duct tape the VF.
