    Hi members,

I am quite new to videography and may use it only for simple content creation.
I have a very basic (or super beginner) question about ND Filter.

What is the best settings in-camera if you are using ND Filter?
I keep my ISO in Auto, fixed shutter speed and aperture, but when I turn the Variable ND filter to the darken side, the ISO keeps increasing to match up the exposure.

Should i set the ISO to fix ISO (example like ISO 200)? Or I maintain in Auto ISO?
If i need to set the fix ISO, sometimes i forget to set the ISO back to Auto.

What is your workflow on the field if you are using VND Filter?

    Thanks

    Hi @moonwalker1985

This is what I do and suggest for you.

First Just go full manual. Set your ND to minimum range.
After setting your shutter(double to the frame rate you are shooting), aperture setting to your image aesthetic requirement.
Then you have the ISO, suppose base ISO is 100,
Situation 01: If you see very dark image,You will increase the ISO.
Situation 02: If the image is very bright, just turn the VND to the required level.

I suggest you use full manual as the ISO don't keep changing in between shots. Hope this helps.

    extra tips:
-remember to white balance every time you add filter
    - the lower your ISO is the less noise you have
    - the lower your variable ND is the less disturb you have due to the fact variable ND when close to their maximum capacity tend to show a cross darkening effect due to polarization
    - in any condition to further avoid polarization effect try to have the source of light 90degree left or right from where you are shooting
    - vignetting may increase the wider lens you use (under 35mm)
    - as robustKID shooting full manual is always better, but there is an exception: if you have a variable aperture zoom lens (and you are gonna change focal length while shooting) because the iso change should counterbalance your lens weakness.

(not related:) if your video is going to be viewed on mobile devices/pc i would use a shutter speed multiple of 60 (30/60/120/180/240) to shoot video to avoid the 3:2 pull-down (something that everyone forget about) (even if u are in PAL regions)
