No matter how much you know about camera settings and achieving the perfect exposure, the magic happens in post-production. In Timeless Milky Way Processing Video Tutorial landscape photographer Rachel Ross shows you how to add magic in your night images.

It’s not always possible to capture the full dynamic range of a scene in one single image. This is due to limitations in our cameras, who struggle to capture all the details that we can see with our eyes. For example, when you look through a brightly lit window and shift your gaze to a dark corner, your pupils dilate to let more light in. Our cameras, however, cannot compensate the bright light coming through the window while also capturing the shadows in the corner.

When photographing scenes with a high dynamic range the solution is to capture more than one image with different exposure times and blend them together in post processing. The blended image will then represent what our eyes were able to see.
