22 Before to After Aug. 26, 2025 Hoofddorp Bridges
Sharon took us on a journey from Vision to Execution through her series of three bridges. In this session, we’ll dive into the creative process behind developing a photographic series — how to choose a subject, approach it from different perspectives, and build visual consistency. Along the way, we’ll cover the essentials of strong composition, explore the techniques used to capture each image, and then move into post-processing to see how the final vision comes together. Whether you’re curious about storytelling through images, refining your technical skills, or enhancing your editing workflow, this session will offer valuable insights for every level of photographer.

24 Before to After Jan. 27, 2026 Hiroshima Torii Gate
We started with reviewing the RAW images and explaining why the one that made the cut was chosen out of the bunch. Then Sharon guided everyone step by step through the intricate post-processing workflow behind the Torii Gate image, demonstrating how to balance vibrant colour with a high-key aesthetic. We saw how careful tonal control, colour refinement, and subtle adjustments work together to preserve atmosphere and detail while maintaining a light, luminous feel—resulting in an image that is both visually striking and thoughtfully refined.

We continued the session by admiring the work of Minimal Leafs at: https://filippkabanyayev.com and tried to back-engineer the process of light painting. Please try this technique for next week and submit your images here:

Lastly, you can purchase flashlights at any dollar store, Amazon, or here: https://lightpaintingbrushes.com/

25 Before to After May 12, The City of Arts and Science Part 1
Today, Sharon walked us through her complete workflow for organizing, reviewing, and ranking files. We explored the important process of deciding which images make the cut — and just as importantly, which ones don’t. We also looked at how to create an effective ranking and organizational system within Lightroom.

One of the most valuable lessons of the day was learning how to think in series — why creating cohesive bodies of work matters, and how to begin cultivating that mindset as a photographer.

To finish the session, we began post-processing one of the People Within Places images captured at the Public Library in Mexico City.

Stay tuned for next week as we continue the journey!

26 Before to After May 19, People Within Places Part 2

We continued seeing how to best add people within places, especially how to create a Perspective Warp for a shadow. Stay tuned to see the rest of the images take life in this series!

    Perspective Warp
    1. Place the subject you want to warp on a
separate layer (convert to smart object?)
    2. Edit-> Perspective Warp:
    1. Start with LAYOUT and select the planes
    2. DON’T click enter, but instead click on
    WARP
    3. Warp according to planes
    4. Add blur, blending modes and opacity as
    needed.

27 Before to After June 9, Inside the Palace of the Arts Valencia
In this continuation of our popular Before to After series, we took an in-depth look at Sharon’s images from Valencia. Stepping inside the stunning Palace of the Arts, we explored the scene through Sharon’s eyes—from identifying the strongest compositions and deciding which images made the cut, to developing a post-processing strategy that helped bring the creative vision to life.

Throughout the session, we examined the complete decision-making process behind creating a finished photograph. Topics included composition, image selection, visual storytelling, and the editing techniques used to transform promising captures into compelling final images.

This session provided a unique behind-the-scenes look at how a photographer evaluates, curates, and develops a body of work. Packed with practical insights and creative inspiration, it offered valuable lessons for anyone looking to strengthen their compositional skills, refine their post-processing workflow, and better understand the artistic choices that shape a final image.

@IronMarco - thanks again for all these video lectures - some interesting food-for-thought throughout. And def a shout-out to @curiousdude for organizing them across all three categories - I, for one, had most certainly missed several episodes along the way; makes it a hella lot tidier and easier to track now - should also appreciably allow greater accumulation of likes for ya too . . . ;)

EDIT - . . . and how about this ol' gal out there hoofin'-it on a regular schedule, keeping up with the tech, and posting these edu vids - kudos to her, man . . . no excuse for the "youngins" to not get their arses off that couch . . .
