08 Special Series - Floral Part 1 Explaining Translucency

FLORAL STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY. Together, we’ll explore everything from studio setup and equipment to shooting techniques and, of course, Sharon’s signature post-processing methods that can take your images from beautiful to breathtaking.

In this Part 1 Session, we will explore the Harold Davis technique of creating a Transparency look to your floral images.

This series will also feature student submissions and image critiques, giving you the chance to learn from real examples. Sharon will share her own approaches, and participants are encouraged to bring forward their unique ideas and techniques — because this is all about learning and growing together.

    09 Special Series - Floral Part 2 Student's Images - Translucency
In today's Part 2, we had the pleasure of seeing the incredible creativity of our participants. Just as importantly, we also examined some common mistakes, looking closely at why they happened and what we can learn from them. Next week, in Part 3, we’ll take things a step further—seeing how those mistakes can be corrected and revisiting some of the wonderful images we didn’t have enough time to cover. It promises to be both insightful and inspiring!

    10 Special Series - Floral Part 3 Student's Images - Translucency

Today, we gained a deeper understanding of Floral Translucency. We reviewed submissions and also saw two blending modes:

    1. The Difference Blending Mode, which helps us see if we moved our camera or tripod while bracketing, and
    2. The Divide Blend mode, which helps eliminate colour casting:

This series will continue with adding floral textures onto buildings and light painting, so keep tuned!

12 Special Series - Floral Part 5 Floral Adding Floral Tapestry to Buildings - STUDENT WORK

Last week, we focused on the foundational principles — exploring concepts, techniques, and creative intent. This week, it’s all about YOU and your work! We’ll be reviewing participants’ images, celebrating your progress, and diving deep into each creative vision. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how everyone interprets the same ideas in their own unique way. We’ll discuss composition choices, editing decisions, and how your artistic voice shines through in your images.

A few links. for next week. They are all great, I highly recommend watching and trying.

14 Special Series - Floral ICM Part 1

Continuing our Special Series on Studio Floral Photography. In response to many Patreons requests, this session will focus specifically on In-Studio Floral ICM. We’ll look at how to set up a simple studio environment, choose the right flowers, manage lighting, and apply intentional camera movement to create well-structured, expressive images.

We discussed what makes a good subject for this technique, how to control motion for different visual effects, and how to refine your results through multiple takes.

16 Special Series - Floral ICM Part 3 - STUDENT WORK

Building on the previous two sessions, we continued reviewing participant submissions. The focus was on moving beyond simply creating an ICM image to processing an image in a way that tells a story. Rather than using advanced post-processing techniques, we demonstrated how thoughtful use of basic Photoshop tools can elevate an image and result in a more refined and sophisticated final photograph.

17 Special Series - Floral Light Painting - STUDENT WORK
Today we reviewed participants’ experiments with light-painted floral images—a process that is far from easy and naturally involves trial and error. Some approaches worked better than others, and many images revealed both successes and challenges along the way.
This session looks closely at what emerged from these experiments, highlighting practical observations, discoveries, and helpful adjustments. Watching the replay will give you useful tips and insights that can help you refine your approach and feel more confident when exploring light painting with flowers.
