Professional photographer Ian Plant notes that water attracts photographers because it adds a magical element to most photographs. Light on water reflects the subjects that are in, on, and around the water, adding an element of light and color. The wildlife in and around the water, such as the plants and animals, inspires photographers as excellent subject matter.

In this course, Ian gives tips on photographing underwater to capture the magical world beneath the surface without spending a fortune. “It’s not the camera—it’s what you do with it that counts,” he says. He points out that water is a mirror to our world, reflecting what we see imperfectly to look like an impressionistic painting. Because of these three elements, incorporating water into your photographs will add light and life and dramatic reflections to your photography.
