I've just started digitizing some old home video and would like to do a bit of editing; nothing too fancy, a bit of trimming and combining clips and adding simple transitions. What software would you recommend? There seems to be so much to choose from.

Also, I seem to remember there is software which helps to stabilise the video when the cam wasn't held steady.

If it makes a difference, learning curve wise, I'm reasonably competent with LR & PS.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

I don't have a lot of experience with all the tools out there - but Filmora was pretty decent for a piece I put together last year. The only really hard bit I had was trying to sync a music component with a section of film; took way too long from what I recall for something that should have been pretty easy to do. Otherwise - it was pretty decent for simple tasks. And there are some tutorials on this site too.

Pls, spec what you need and what is your operating system. I love Mac but any Adobe soft 4 me is defy for me, not not not not.
It depends on whether you want ore what's thing is acceptable to you. Original program and pirate plugins, or both pirate program and plugins. You won't Open the door or you already have preferences reservations?

In fact I think there aren't a lot of options for beginners, there are a few but very amateur for my taste, the only one I can think of is iMovie.

Easily Davinci Resolve. It's free and has a standard editor interface.

Thanks for all the replies - appreciated.
    I'm on Win 10 x64
I've installed Filmora & just tried some simple trimming & noise reduction, which was surprisingly easy. I'll work on this for a while and then might try out some of the other programs, once I have something to compare them with. So far, Filmora looks like it will satisfy my needs and looks easy to use.

For me easy = Sony Vegas, now Magix Vegas, Adobe Premiere is also easy but huge, Resolve's Editing tools are still to be matured.
